A UK judge has issued a warning about the dangers of unregulated sperm donation, using the case of Robert Charles Albon, also known as "Joe Donor," who claims to have fathered over 180 children worldwide. Albon took a same-sex couple to court seeking parental rights over their child, despite initially advertising that he would leave contact decisions to the mother. The court rejected his claims and found his actions to be self-serving, concluding that he sought control rather than the child’s welfare.
The judge ruled against granting him parental responsibility and stated there was no benefit in changing the child's name or allowing direct contact. The case highlighted the risks of using unregulated donors, who are not subject to legal safeguards such as health checks and family limits. Authorities emphasized the importance of using licensed clinics for sperm donation to protect both donors and recipients.
